Today, I am guest posting at Crystal Twaddell’s site. It’s an honor to be able to share what God planted in my heart after a recent trip to Kentucky. Crystal is a cheerleader and an encourager. She says, “We’d brave the difficult hurdles, stare fear in the face, and we would most definitely become fueled to pursue the very thing we were created to be and do…for the sake of a legacy.” Isn’t this music to your ears? I know it is to mine. I want to stare fear in the face, and bravely jump over all the hurdles in my life. You will find a lot more hope over at her site!

If you guessed the Kentucky Derby, you are right!
Our family just returned from Church Hill Downs in Kentucky a few weeks ago. The journey of the Thoroughbred is a remarkable story. The foal begins training to race right from birth. Every activity, every day is in preparation for racing. If the horse becomes good enough, it might race at Church Hills Downs.
Running the Race of Life
The horse has one chance to race at this particular race track when it is three years old.
It’s important to realize, this young horse has one chance to make it or break it.
One race to shine in the spotlight, or find itself in the shadows.
Even if the horse makes it to racing season, many circumstances can affect how well the horse does: weather conditions, track conditions, injuries, or even the jockey’s position on the saddle.
In spite of potential stumbling blocks, if you put the horse on the racetrack, it will run as hard as it can.
Does the horse know it’s racing?
According to “For the Win,” Horses know they are racing, and a lot of it is what’s similarly going on in humans’ heads: The will to win — with varying degrees of competitiveness. They also might feel dejection or pride at their performance, even if it doesn’t linger.1
So my question for you is: Isn’t our life like a race?

Loved this list of tips and how you related it to a horse race. I think “Remember Whose Stable You Belong to” was my favorite 🙂 No matter how bad I mess up, I am still His and He loves me! Thanks for the encouragement to keep my focus and press on towards the prize. Your neighbor at #heartencouragement Thursday.
Great encouragement, Julie. I love that we get more chances than the horses. : )
Thank you Crystal!
