How Do I Find Thankfulness and Joy When I’m Running on Empty?
Inside: That day, I smiled my way through and mimicked everyone’s festive mindset. How do you choose thankfulness and joy when you don’t feel it?
Today I’m sharing over at Kelly Basham’s site: Blossom in Faith. Her site is great! I don’t know about you, but I want to be someone who blossoms among life. That brings hope and a smile that reflects our Savior. I think you will really enjoy her site!

11 I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow (John 15:11, NLT).
Thanksgiving was here. And honestly, thankfulness was the furthest thing from my mind.
I had family around me, good food to eat and a roof over my head, but it had been a long, tough season. Everything inside of me was reeling from a place of hurt. The pain was prolonged, and gratitude was hard to muster up.
That day, I smiled and mimicked everyone’s festive mindset, but it wasn’t the way I really felt.
How do you choose thankfulness and joy when inside there is only a feeling of emptiness?
Four Truths about God and My Feelings:
- God is faithful.
- He never changes.
- Feelings will constantly change.
- My feelings will confuse, twist and lie to me.
On Earth, tough seasons will continually come. According to the Bible, hard times will happen.

Julie, I was just thinking about feelings this morning. Number 4 on your list is so true, Our feelings do lie to us! Thank you for sharing this with us. Thankful God is always faithful!
Lisa- Feelings are funny aren’t they? I think I place too much worth my feelings about what’s real and then I live based on my feelings. I need to rely on more of what I know, what’s truth in God’s Word. Maybe I wouldn’t be so shaken up when my feelings are present.
