My teeth were clenched, and I felt sick to my stomach. The steam was pouring out of my ears like it does on the cartoons. My inner mama bear was furious. I felt like I had to do something: tell someone off, or anonymously post something eluding to the incident without using names.
I didn’t take any further action, but I did eat a handful of chocolate. A whole handful, no lie!
Do you ever feel like this when it comes to your kids?
Momma Bear Appears
You almost become primal, losing all rational thoughts because you are stuck in that moment and can’t see around it.
A young man had dumped my daughter, Olivia because she was ”too religious” and couldn’t be pressured into having sex with him. These were direct words out of his mouth at the town celebration a few days later.
While I was proud of Olivia’s conviction and standards, my heart still broke for her. Not only was she dumped, but then drug through the mud over her faith.
She said to me, “It sometimes stinks that you get made fun of for your faith and morals.”
Oh, girl. You are just beginning to live out your faith. That boy didn’t deserve you.

Why does our faith lead us down harder paths than those without faith? We do what is laid out for us in the Bible, and the situation is still a mess.
My daughter wanted to stand up for her faith, but she didn’t want to stick out.
As a teenager, it’s hard enough to survive the social scene, and she didn’t want to be labeled as the “religious girl.”
Is being a religious girl that bad of a designation?
How does God bless us when we stick out with a living faith?
Confidence
We know to whom we belong. We are beloved and cherished. The God of the Universe is on our side. Where can someone find this type of confidence on Earth?
(Philippians 4:13, NLT).
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
Joy
We know where we are going. God is working everything out for our good. Our future is awaiting us in eternal life.
(Philippians 1:6, NLT).
6And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
Fulfillment
When you have an intimate relationship with Jesus, you are satisfied in a way that can’t be found on Earth. This relationship becomes a priority because we understand who fills us up. In this world, people are chasing false fulfillment. The religious girl has the true source, a Great I Am! #God #Christian Share on X
(Psalm 145:15-16, NLT).
15 The eyes of all look to you in hope; you give them their food as they need it. 16 When you open your hand, you satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing.
Peace
God has our back. Troubles may come, but we have the Problem Solver. We realize that everything is under His control.
(Deuteronomy 31:6, NLT).
6 So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.
More Blessings God Grants Us When We Stick Out in Faith
While this season might seem harder because Olivia showcased her faith, down the road she will see she did choose the safer path. She stayed within the guidelines that God has outlined in the Bible.
I know she will make some poor choices along the way, but I was proud of this moment. She stood at the intersection of Status Quo and God’s ideals and chose the latter.
God promises blessings to us if we stand out, so we shouldn’t be fearful when we are placed in a situation like this. God tells us many times our faith will make us a target. Our faith will get us into sticky situations and hard places. These are the times when our faith meets the road and we put our faith into action.

I don’t know about you, but being a religious girl should be something we strive for each day.
16 For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes (Romans 1:16, NLT).
Appreciate your daughter’s commitment to the word. The struggle is real. The Lord won’t disappoint anyone who stands for Him!

You’ve raised a faithful and strong daughter, Mama Bear. If only that kind of conviction could be instilled in all children so young. Blessings to you!
Liz- It all starts with God. So sad that we’ve moved so far away from Him. I’m saddened to think my kids might not find spouses that uphold to His ideals. This mama bear is praying more intentional in this department!
