17 of the Most Awesome Biblical Truths Boys Better Embrace Now
Inside: How do I raise these boys to be leaders and respectable men? What good truths will let their light shine in this current world?
*Disclosure: Post may contain affiliate links. See our full disclosure here.
I know nothing about boys.
There I said it, and God has given me four boys and one girl.
I didn’t have any brothers, or boy playmates growing up.
The closest boy I interacted with was a cousin, who I saw a few times a year.
The jokes on me! What the heck am I doing?
Here are some things my boys have taught me:
- Objects can be right in front of them and they can’t see them.
- If clothes are next to the laundry basket, that’s as good as getting them in the laundry basket.
- Dirty, stinky socks are meant to be left lying around on counters, under tables, and behind books.
How do I raise these boys to be leaders and respectable men?
What do I need to teach them so that they can let their light shine in this current world?
What can I do to build character, which makes them charming to future wives and others within their circle?
What Do You Desire for Your Boy?
First and foremost, I desire that my boys have:
- An intimate relationship with God
- A work-in-progress character that embraces growth in God’s image
- Chivalry and gentleman-like manners
- Love for themselves and their relationships
- Strong work ethic and respect for others
- Healthy self-worth
The truth is all these qualities won’t happen without God’s wisdom and guidance.
If left to my own parenting, I know I’ve already screwed up.
My best parenting action is to pray for each of my boys, asking for help, wisdom, and direction for each of my sons.
To be the best men in life, God needs to be involved. Share on XOur culture isn’t going to give our boys any of these qualities.
We are officially called the rape culture when it comes to how boys treat girls.
Boys, within this culture, are objectifying or denigrating females currently and have little regard for the importance of sex within the marital bed.
If you haven’t noticed over the last few years, hate, violence, and disintegration have increased and our world is moving farther away from God.
I don’t want my boys to conform to the society around them, but rather I want the voice of God to be the foundation of their heart.
Drawing on God in absolute truth throughout life is what I want my boys to grasp.

Our Boys Can Be Lights in this World
Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. (1 Timothy 4:12, NLT).
As I look forward to the future, praying for my boys is the first step.
We can pray for our boys’ hearts to be open to receive teaching from God.
We can also ask God to give them spiritual wisdom to live for their purpose and to understand and use their spiritual gifts.
Our sons can be the beacons of light in the storm of our society.
May they draw into God amidst their daily lives.
We can’t change an evil culture, but we can impact our boys to leave a mark on the culture. Share on XAs my boys grow older, I’m learning more and more about their gender.
I can tell you nothing pulls at the hearts strings than when one of my boys tells me “thank you” or leans in for a hug.
When I find those dirty socks and laundry next to the hamper, I will chuckle because I know this season won’t last forever.

I hear ya. I have three sons and I’ve learned a lot about the male gender over these last, almost, 22 years. I was nervous to have boys, thinking I knew nothing about them, but — oh the joy we would have missed without them. So grateful for these creatures I’m still learning to understand. — Great list, and yes–prayer. Prayer is our biggest influence over our children, especially as they grow into adulthood. Good word today, Julie. Thanks for sharing. 🙂 ((hug))

I burst out laughing when I read, “Objects can be right in front of them and they can’t see them.” Oh. My. GOODNESS! That is so my son! My husband says he needs to tie a notebook and pencil around his neck to write things down. But…our son is such a delight. Always hugging me. Always making us laugh. Standing up for the girls…showing them respect. AND…he is getting baptized this Sunday. I love him so much.
