A red puddle was forming on the hallway oak flooring, a deep red color was splattered on the white wall. At first glance, the red on the walls looked like a paint mishap.

However, on the floor, my daughter was laying on my lap while I tried to get her nose to stop bleeding.

She had had nose bleeds before, and they would come out of nowhere. Always in the moments, we weren’t ready for them. This time, however, the blood was just gushing out and I was full of fear and panic.

The remedies and tricks in the past which ceased the bleeding failed to work this time. I was alone with my four kids, so I didn’t have an extra hand to help me in this situation.

Why Abiding in Christ?

Can I admit something? I suck in emergency situations because I fear the worse. My thinking becomes jumbled and I can’t make rational decisions. (I’m hoping that this is because all my emergency situations have been for loved ones).

My problem is when I’m stuck in a situation like this, I don’t remain close to God. I panic in my own strength and view of the mess through my eyes.

If I’d only turn to God and ask Him for the wisdom to make quick and wise decisions, I’d be more at peace and rationality.

Instead, I believe that I somehow need to figure everything out. Control belongs to me, or at least I think it does.

I Overlook Closeness for Control

What if my daughter had said to me that day, leave me alone, let me figure this out for myself and I don’t need your help because I can handle it. If I replied, ok, do your own thing and got in the car and drive away, the conclusion to this scenario would have ended differently.
