The hour before the bus comes in the morning brings with it pure insanity. Some mornings I want to return to bed because it goes that bad. Five kids and a puppy in the early morning can test my poise. When difficulties and chaos are present, it’s so easy to blame others or take the attitude that “nobody” has done it.

One morning, in particular, started off a cascade of events that tested my patience. As I was cleaning out the coffee pot, I was hit by a Nerf bullet which caused me to jump. The coffee pot shattered all over the floor.

I headed to the store to buy another coffee maker. Returning home, I unpacked the new coffee maker and set the instruction manual on the toaster. Do you see where this chain of events is going?

The next morning, one of the kids yelled to me that the toaster was on fire. A huge stink was created in the kitchen. I asked who put the paper into the toaster. Everyone denied and “nobody” had done it.

Why I Lost Control and Needed God’s Guidance Instead

A lot of the bad things that happened to me were because of bad choices on my part. I forgot this many times and wanted to wave a finger at God for allowing the situation to happen, but in reality, it was my fault. I created a real stink in my life.

Years and years of stress, worry, and a fast-paced life put a huge strain on my body. I began suffering panic attacks, generalized anxiety, dizziness, and intense fatigue. I wanted to blame God for creating this mess. Of course, I hadn’t caused any of these problems. “Nobody” had done it.

The truth is, I was trying to control everything that happened to me. The anxiety created a pit of stink and I was stuck.

The Peace that Passes All Understanding

At my kitchen farm table, I met my Savior during the early morning. Most mornings, He led me to online devotions and key verses popped off the page beckoning me to open up my water-stained, page-wrinkled Bible.

Taking in his Words, I slowly began to relax that grip of anxiety.

The white knuckles that were holding on to dear life opened up to receive grace and mercy to let God have control.

11 Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan (Ephesians 1:11, NLT).

Frazzled and fatigued mommas out there: Here is where we find renewal in the midst of the mini-messes of our day. We must relax in Him and get filled with Him, if even for only a few minutes.

I lost control and replaced it with surrender to God’s will.

We need to remember that He holds the control in our lives. Why fight His control? Rest in it! The God, who sent His Son to die for us and promises new life here and eternal life in Heaven, is leading.

Will you promise to make a real effort in meeting with Him this week? I will be trying also!
