Inside: If you feel overwhelmed all the time, constantly on edge, or mentally exhausted, you’re not alone. Learn how stress, your nervous system, and your faith all connect—and discover gentle, God-centered ways to find peace again.

I told my husband the other week…“I feel like I’m constantly under a time restraint.”

I need to be here.
Do this.
Show up for that.

And if I’m honest?

Most days I feel like a ping pong ball—bouncing from one thing to the next…never quite landing.

Do you feel this too, friend?

Like you’re enduring life…but not really enjoying it?

Because everything feels rushed and you’re just trying to keep up?

There are constant problems to solve.
Things to manage.
People to care for.

And in those tiny moments where you can breathe…you’re catching up on everything you couldn’t do before.

And then it starts all over again.

You tell yourself:

  • I need to spend more time with God
  • I want to be different
  • I don’t want to feel like this

But somehow…it feels like the Groundhog Day movie.

Same pressure.
Same overwhelm.
Same cycle.

You love God…but you feel constantly on edge.

And maybe this is why…

“A woman who lives with the stress of an overwhelmed schedule will often ache with the sadness of an underwhelmed soul.”
— Lysa TerKeurst

If I’m honest…that one stings a little.

Because it’s not just that we’re busy… it’s that our souls are running on empty.

It’s Not Just Spiritual (And That Matters)

For a long time, I thought this meant I was doing something wrong.

Like maybe I missed the memo where the Bible said: “Once you follow Jesus, life feels calm and manageable.”

Wouldn’t that be nice?

But here’s what I’m slowly learning (and still learning):

Life is hard.

Seasons are hard.

And being a Christian doesn’t exempt us from that,

“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
(John 16:33, NLT).

And yet…so many of us quietly believe: If I feel overwhelmed… something must be wrong with my faith.

But what if…It’s not a faith issue?
What if your body is just overwhelmed?

Your Nervous System Might Be Overloaded

Let’s talk about something we don’t always connect to faith: your nervous system.

We are living in a world that constantly pushes:

Do more.
Be more.
Fix more.
Keep up.

And your body?

It’s responding.

You’re stuck in what’s called: fight or flight.

Always alert.
Always reacting.
Always on edge.

So you feel:

  • wired but exhausted
  • overwhelmed by small things
  • emotionally drained
  • unable to rest—even when you try

And then we do something heartbreaking.

We assume: “I must not be trusting God enough.”

If your overwhelm has started to sound like “I’m not doing enough” or “I’m failing at everything”… you might resonate with this too:

Why Do I Feel Like I’m Failing at Everything (Even as a Christian Woman?)

Friend…Your body might just be saying: “This is too much.”

Why This Affects Your Faith So Much

Have you ever tried to read your Bible when you’re overwhelmed?

You read the same verse…again… and again…and it just doesn’t stick?

Or you try to pray…and your mind is everywhere?

(me too💜. )

When your nervous system is overwhelmed:

  • your brain struggles to focus
  • your thoughts feel scattered
  • everything feels heavier

So it’s not that:

God is distant or your faith is weak.

It’s that: you’re overwhelmed.

And when you’re overwhelmed…it’s hard to see God clearly.

Sometimes in these seasons, God can feel distant too—and that can feel confusing and discouraging. If that’s where you are, this may encourage you:

You miss:

  • the little reassurances
  • the quiet moments
  • the “love notes” He’s sending

Not because He stopped… but because your mind is in survival mode.

 The Lie We Believe

So many of us go here: “I’m a bad Christian” or  “I should be handling this better.”

And we repeat that thought…over and over again.

But that lie- only adds more weight.

The Truth (Let’s Anchor Here)

You will feel overwhelmed sometimes.

But you were never meant to carry it alone.

“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”
(Matthew 11:28, NLT).

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”
(1 Peter 5:7, NLT).

God doesn’t say: “try harder.”
He says: come to Me.

What Actually Helps (Gently)

Not perfectly.

Not all at once.

Just small shifts.

Maybe the answer isn’t doing more…maybe it’s doing less.

“Never is a woman so fulfilled as when she chooses to underwhelm her schedule so she can let God overwhelm her soul.”
— Lysa TerKeurst

That kind of living feels so different from what the world tells us, doesn’t it?

But it might be exactly what our hearts—and our bodies—are craving.

 1. Slow down (even when it feels unnatural)

This has been one of the hardest things for me.

I’m a doer.
Type A.
Oldest daughter energy.

But rushing was costing me more than slowing ever did.

One thing that has helped me process all the mental noise is writing it out. If you’ve never tried that, here’s a simple place to start:

 2. Say no—even to good things

This one changed everything for me.

Not everything good…is God’s best for you right now.

You don’t have to:

  • do everything
  • be everything
  • show up everywhere

 3. Simplify what you can

Little things matter:

  • planning meals
  • creating rhythms
  • reducing decision fatigue

These aren’t just “life hacks,”  they help regulate your body.

 4. Take care of your body (this is spiritual too)

  • sleep
  • movement
  • nourishment

You are not “just a soul,”  you are a whole person.

 5. Come back to God… gently

Not pressured.

Not rushed.

Not checking a box.

Just:

  • one verse
  • one prayer
  • one quiet moment

A Gentle Reset (For You)

If you’re reading this and thinking: “this is me.”

I created something simple for you.

Not another thing to do…but a way to:

  • slow down
  • process what you’re feeling
  • reconnect with God

Because you don’t need more pressure right now.

You need space to breathe again. 💜

 Final Encouragement

Friend…

You’re not failing.

You’re not weak.

You’re not a “bad Christian”

You might just be:

  • Overwhelmed
  • Overloaded
  • Carrying too much for too long

And God?

He hasn’t stepped away from you in this.

He’s right here.

Ready to carry what you were never meant to hold alone.
